BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Laura Dern is heading to HBO in October with “Enlightened,” a quirky drama about Amy, a woman who undergoes a transformation after a massive meltdown in front of her co-workers. Many of the themes in the series, however, actually came from Creator/Executive Producer Mike White’s own life. “When I did my last show, I kind of did my own, ‘[Expletive] you guys in the hall!’ and [I] started reading self help books and meditating and I just thought it’d be funny to do a show about somebody who comes back from a public humiliation,” Mike, who also stars in the series alongside Laura and Luke Wilson said on Thursday at HBO’s portion of the Television Critics Association Summer 2011 Session in Beverly Hills. “They’ve seen the light, and they want to express that, but they don’t have the credibility… I think that there’s a lot of personal stuff in it, but obviously it’s a big canvas.” Laura, who plays the Amy, with her sunny, new-age outlook, said playing a character who has trouble fitting in at work and in life, post blow-up and with her new attitude, has been interesting. “I think there’s a lot of freedom and opportunity as an actor to get to live in the gray and explore that, but I also think it’s really interesting that so many of us long for or put honesty on a pedestal — I do — but when you are inside of a character who’s honest, what an incredibly unlikable trait it is,” she said. The series also stars Luke Wilson as Levi, Amy’s not-quite-reformed love interest, and the film star said the leap to TV was easy. “It was mainly because of Mike and Laura,” Luke said of the easy sell to join the show. “I was a big fan of ‘Chuck and Buck’ and… ‘School of Rock’ (both of which Mike wrote)… and I’ve always been a fan of Laura for a long time, and just those two people alone I would have wanted to work with.” “Enlightened” debuts on Monday, October 10 on HBO.

what are some great horror movies?

The next morning, Phil, Stu and Alan, along with gangster Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong) (whom Alan befriended after Las Vegas) and a sequence-cigarette smoking capuchin monkey, awaken in a dirty hotel room in Bangkok. Stu has a face tattoo, and Alan's head is completely shaven. Nonetheless, they are unable to locate Teddy, only exploring his severed finger. The four use Chow's speedboat, the keys for which had been in Teddy's pocket, to journey back to the wedding reception. Arriving just as Lauren's father is about to cancel the wedding, Stu makes a defiant speech the place he rejects being boring and as a substitute states that he is in actual fact quite wild. Impressed, Lauren's father gives the couple his blessing. After the wedding continues on, Alan presents Stu with a special present on the publish-reception dance: a musical visitor performance by Mike Tyson. Teddy later learns that he had taken many photos through the night on his cellular phone. Once again, the group, along with Tyson, agree to look at the pictures collectively once earlier than erasing the evidence of their exploits. The screen goes black as the group (in response to the first movie) exclaim in shock to the images (which, just like the first movie, play over the finishing credits).

Ally McBeal, what in heaven's name was her problem?

I watched Ally McBeal end-to-end a long ago, but my wife never did.
Last month my wife wanted to watch the show, so we rented all the
seasons and started watching it together. We're currently on season 4.

Dear God, it's been almost 10 years since I watched the show... and
now my more adult, more mature (I hope) mind, begs the question: What
the hell was wrong with that woman??!

Was she supposed to serve as an example to young professional women
back then? She was so pathetic and she wasn't even 30, I never
realized so many years ago that she was such a loser, her only drive
in life was not to succeed as a woman and in her career, but to find a
husband and being always miserable for not doing so? Even Bridget
Jones could (barely) and didn't have to lose like, I don't know 75%
(?) of her body weight just for men to find her "sexy". (A friend of
mine thinks Ally could be a really good Emo character if the show was
made today lol).

And what's with all the hallucinations? She had to be admitted or
accepted the Prozac right away; I could not work with someone so
screwed up (actually I did have to work for almost 4 years with a 40
year old boss that was an angry-with-life, cat lady whose ambitions in
life were similar to Ally's, a nightmare indeed).

In the end she just gets a fix when a daughter falls from the sky upon
her feet... So being a single mom is an OK alternative if you have
given up having a healthy relationship? Not if you are crazy as hell,
girl!!!! Poor kid, it's gonna be a nightmare to grow up with such a
nut piece of work as a mom.

The comedic parts were ok (specially from the other cast members, Greg
Germann rocks) but I don't know how that kind of character could
endure so much in TV. I met almost all my female friends since we were
like 22 and they're all happy professional women and they never
followed that kind of crappy mindset, I really don't know how I (or
America) endured 5 seasons of this :S

Obviously the question goes for people in their early 30's since
probably you watched the show in your 20's, younger people luckily
will never watch it :P
